URBAN AFRICAN

work at Ginger for Bangkok International Gift Fair April 2011

The collection was inspired by the Kente cloth of an ethnic group in West Africa, the Akan. Four prints of the collection take the strong character of African graphics and transformed them into modern patterns with vivid colours. The main materials for the collection are cotton canvas, velvet, and satin. The differentiation of fabrics imbues the products with an eclectic touch.

All fabrics were produced in India by a hand printing process. There were production limitations in refining the designs; however, these limitations eventually led to the unique beauty of the hand-printed fabric.
